Marco Merli

Italy, Casa del Diavolo

More than ten years ago, Marco Merli gave up his career in clothing design to invest in his true vocation as a naturalist winemaker in the vineyards of Umbria, which his father Enzo kept as a retirement project. Over the years, he began to search for old vineyards that had been left behind to be reconverted. Following their acquisition, he brought rigorous precision and bohemian aesthetics to the cultivated vineyards. Today, it consists of 9 hectares of organic and biodynamic vines, without the use of SO2 inputs, fermenting on indigenous yeasts, unfiltered and not fined. Marco works only with traditional grape varieties such as Sangiovese, Ciliegiolo, Trebbiano and Verdicchio, often in coplantation. Moreover, the fermentation of the wines takes place plot by plot, grape variety by grape variety, before the eventual final blending. These are wines with predominantly mineral and vegetal characteristics that come out of his estate, each one as exquisite as the next.
