Marjan Simcic

Slovenia, Medana

When you plunge into the wine world of Marjan Simcic, you plunge into the mystical world of Goriska Brda’s country. The estate in question, located in Medana, is literally on the border of Slovenia and Italy, with vineyards spread over 24 hectares in both countries, on a soil rich in minerals. The estate is of paramount importance in the country. It has been handed down from generation to generation since 1860, when Jozef Simcic took possession of this ancient land, which he bequeathed to his son Anton. The latter opened a store and an inn in the village, as well as a cellar in Vienna filled with wines from his vineyard. It was in 1988 that Marjan took back possession of the estate and it was in 2008 that the vineyard entered a new era of winemaking, to give it all the glory and respect it deserves, through a level of perfection of the vine that has been worked for 20 years. It enjoys an excellent reputation on the international market. At the crossroads of the Mediterranean and the Alps, this region is an ancestral place where the climatic conditions are ideal for the blossoming of the vine. The vines, after 55 years of age, are maintained in communion with the environment, without the addition of artificial fertilizers and insecticides, in order to express as faithfully as possible a wine in the image of Marjan, while taking into account the beauty and richness of the terroir.
