Château Jean Faux

France, Sainte-Radegonde

Initially a cooper at Tonnellerie Saury for 20 years, Pascal Collotte finally became a winemaker with the acquisition of the Château Jean Faux estate in Sainte-Radegonde in 2002. On the south bank of the Dordogne river, facing Saint-Emilion and Castillon, he advocates from the beginning an artisanal approach in respect with nature. The signature of the terroirs is revealed by organic agriculture since 2011 and biodynamic since 2017. Together with Stéphane Derenoncourt, the consultant oenologist, they carefully evaluate the soils of the clayey-limestone hillsides to cultivate 1.5 hectares. The vineyard is now 12 hectares of which 10 hectares are composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc and 2 hectares are composed of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Semillon. Always accompanied by Stéphane’s advice, Pascal favours balance and the right maturity in the wines… He tends to make wines that retain a particular freshness and transmit the energy of the soil. With the help of his daughter Clémence, he continues the tradition of Château Jean Faux as he sees fit: to produce an open, tender and artisanal wine.
