Region

South-West

France

The South-West wine region of France is not one that is particularly well known. Its climate, grape varieties and general wine style is comparable to the wine of the world renown region of Bordeaux, but that is slightly richer and more concentrated. Here you will find bold and structured red wines made from the local grapes Malbec, Tannat and Fer Servadou but also Merlot and Cabernet Sauvingon that are also widely planted. The whites are expressive and are fresh and vibrant and are made mostly from Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng, Colombard and Len de l’El. In addition to still wines, The South-West produces exceptionnal dessert wines under the appellations Jurançon and Monbazillac. These wines are made from late harvested grapes that have been affected by Noble Rot, giving the finished wine a luscious sweetness and characteristic nuttiness.
