Italy, FumaneSecondo Marco means “according to Marco”, an expression that perfectly describes the approach taken by Marco Speri. Founded in 2008, Secondo Marco represents a breath of fresh air in the Valpolicella wine world. Having left the Speri family winery, Marco set up his estate in Fumane, a region of high viticultural quality in which he cultivates 15 hectares. Its vineyards are located in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico region, between Lake Garda and the ancient city of Verona, and benefit from a unique microclimate, with warm Lake Garda breezes in the morning and cool mountain air descending from the Lessini Mountains in the late afternoon. Marco’s philosophy is based on a harmony between age-old traditions and modern techniques. Using indigenous yeasts and organic farming, he allows native grapes such as Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella to express themselves fully. He has introduced a new “Y” cultivation system, favoring lightness, air circulation and optimal leaf exposure, producing Valpolicella, Ripasso, Amarone and Recioto wines of exceptional caliber. His unique approach combines long cellar ageing with natural vinification, delivering remarkable aromatic complexity and overall balance. With the help of Tuscan consultant Attilio Pagli, Marco crafts transcendent wines that are both traditional and contemporary. Each bottle is the fruit of a perfect balance between rich fruit aromas and finely-tuned acidity, making these wines easy to drink and bursting with rich aromas. Secondo Marco is a vibrant testament to Marco’s vision that, “when carrying on a family tradition, there is on the one hand the fear of change, and on the other the desire to do something new, to leave a mark visible to future generations.” Let yourself be tempted by the difference!
