Cascina Val del Prete

Italy, Priocca

The Cascina Val del Prete estate is rich in history and legend. It is said that around 1850 the walls of the farmhouse were used as a dwelling for Abbot Félice de Grèsy when he was forced into exile. Today, the estate’s vines grow at an altitude of 250m, treated according to the most natural methods, which give free rein to a pure expression of the terroir, through the use of environmentally friendly methods such as the right amount of manure, the judicious use of good “green” fertilizers and careful tillage of the soil. This is how the former “Valley of the Priests” is nowadays conducted. Indeed, the estate traces its contemporary wine-making activity back to the 19th century and even before that, to Roman times. In order to honor the traditional and authentic aspect of the practices, agriculture on the vineyard has been conducted in a natural way since 1995 by Mario, son of Bartolomo Roagna, the man behind the vine since 1977. Since 2013, with the refreshing contribution of Mario’s son Giovanni, this 10 hectar vineyard is certified organic. All this combined know-how offers us savory rich and elegant wines.
