Domaine de l’Horizon

France, Calce

After working as a consultant in several wineries in Italy and France, and still export manager at Stockinger (the barrels), Thomas Teibert decided to make wine in his own way. His meeting with the legend of Calce, Gérard Gauby, was a landmark. The exceptional terroir of this region prompted him to create his estate one year later in 2006, northwest of Perpignan, in the Roussillon region. The Domaine de l’Horizon is composed of 17 hectares of old vines, on average 70 years old and more, of Macabeu, Carignan, white, grey and black grenache, Muscat and Syrah. On complex soils of black schist, slate, limestone and red marl, the vines are cultivated organically and have been certified biodynamic since 2009. All the wines are bottled under the IGP Côtes Catalanes label, which represents the Catalan identity and the windy and rocky microclimate of Calce. Its wines are fresh, salty and easily digestible. Keeping Gérard Gauby’s vision in mind, Thomas takes a natural direction in the vineyard and makes wines with as little intervention as possible. With very low yields and no need to green harvest on old vines, he obtains very ripe and healthy grapes. They are all expressive wines of this singular terroir with Mediterranean influences.
