Rocche Costamagna

Italy, La Morra

The history of Rocche Costamagna is deeply rooted in the prestigious terroir of La Morra, the largest and most renowned commune in the Barolo appellation. Officially founded on May 15, 1841, when Luigi Costamagna was granted a license to sell his wines, the winery enjoys a reputation of excellence for its high-quality wines. The vineyards, particularly those of Rocche dell’Annunziata, have been cultivated for more than two centuries, preserving the family’s winemaking tradition and heritage. In the late 1960s, Claudia Ferraresi and her husband Giorgio Locatelli took over the reins of the estate, renovating the vineyards and historic cellars while creating the cultural association La Ca dj’Amis to promote local arts and gastronomic culture. Under the current management of Alessandro Locatelli, Rocche Costamagna continues to improve its viticultural practices, highlighting the unique characteristics of La Morra and Rocche dell’Annunziata terroirs. Rocche Costamagna adopts a sustainable, nature-friendly approach, favoring farming methods that minimize the use of chemical treatments and promote biodiversity. The vineyards, replanted in the 90s after careful analysis of the terroir, benefit from rigorous, environmentally-friendly maintenance, guaranteeing the vitality and quality of the vines for many years to come. “Our aim is to produce a Barolo that has the strength of a classic, capable of always telling a new story, that can last over time,” Preferring smooth, complex wines, Rocche Costamagna works each grape variety and each vintage according to their unique qualities to respect the natural expression of the La Morra terroir. Each phase of the winemaking process is carefully orchestrated to fully express the characteristics of the grapes, producing elegant, long-lasting Barolos that are living testimonies to this exceptional terroir.
