Domaine Denis Carré

France, Meloisey

The world of wine and vines has always been part of Denis and Bernadette Carré’s life. Together, they dreamed of growing vines and making wine, to pass on this know-how and way of life to their future children. In 1975, they founded their estate in Meloisey, Denis’ childhood village in the Hautes-Côtes de Beaune region. At the beginning of their adventure, they rented vineyards before settling on family land, including La Perrière. After a few years, the couple acquired new plots in Pommard, Meursault and Saint-Aubin, among others. The estate now comprises 12 hectares of the finest plots spread over 8 appellations. In 2008, their son Martial, as passionate as his parents, joined the domaine, followed by his sister Gaetane. The Carré family’s approach is based on respect for nature. Living and working in harmony with each living, unique plot is essential. Between 2009 and 2011, we will stop using industrial chemicals to treat the vines. Organic fertilizers and the use of copper and sulfur to combat vine diseases will be favored. Vineyard work and vinification follow lunar rhythms, and the precepts of organic farming have been applied since the late 2000s. Everything is done to bring out the nobility of the terroirs with a minimum of intervention, resulting in wines that express the full richness of their nature. Like their parents before them, Martial and Gaetane take a humble approach to each of their terroirs, in order to pass on this unique heritage to the next generation.
