Il Mortellito
Italy, Pachino
Il Mortellito is the name of the region where Dario Serrentino takes his roots. At the time, it was 2 hectares of countryside where his grandparents lived at the beginning of the 20th century. Nowadays, 23 hectares give birth to these mythical Sicilian wines. It was here that he decided to realize his true vocation, despite the norms of the city and society. It is a return to the land and the sea, his two greatest passions. The local wine culture inspires him to embark on the production of authentic wines, reflecting the natural characteristics of the land, without additions or alterations. After years of selling his grapes (to naturalists Frank Cornelissen, Lamoresca among others), in 2014 he began to vinify and bottle his own wines under the name of Il Mortellito. Dario is also a naturalist, but he insists on making his own wines, which are only as delicate as their taste. The wines are digestible in style and very drinkable. The vineyard is located in the territory of Val di Noto, between Bufalefi, Maccari and Cozzo Tronzo, on medium-textured chalk soils. The grape varieties grown here are Nero d’avola, Moscato di noto, Frappato and Grillo. In addition to the cultivation of the vine, the estate also grows olive oil and almond of avola.
