Campania
ItalyCampania is a notable wine region if the southern part of Italy, that has gained its reputation through not only the quality of their wines, but the fact that they have nurtured and maintained the production of indigenous grape varieties over many years. The region is home to renown appellations such as Taurasi, Fiano di Avellino, Greco di Tufo and Falerno del Massico. Aglianico, the most planted black grape variety of the region, produces bold and structured reds that are age worthy. Fiano and Greco are examples of white wines that have beautiful aromatic complexity paired with vibrant acidity. The climate of Campania is perfect for grape growing, with its Mediterranean hot and dry summers, followed by mild winters. Furthermore, its high diurnal temperatures and the influence of coastal breezes further encourage grape maturity, resulting in balance and finesse in the finished wines. Campania’s soils are mostly limestone and calcareous rich, and volcanic in some parts in proximity to Mount Vesuvius. All of these factors combined make Campania a very interesting wine region to discover.
